The Last Day

We cannot believe it is our final night in Honduras, how time flies when you are having fun, working hard and being inspired! Yesterday we completed our final brigade in a small village where we were again able to treat close to 450 patients in the medical clinic and approximately 50 in the dental clinic. The highlight of the day was definitely near the end of the brigade when we were able to hand out supplies for colouring and drawing as well as soccer balls. The group spent the last hour playing with the children, who waved our bus goodbye with huge smiles on their faces.
Today we were able to visit a small village they call the ¨tourist capital¨ where we shopped at local markets and stores. After that we visited Flor Azul, a boy´s orphanage which also serves as agricultural school for close to 100 young hondurans. The GMB MTA boys in particular had fun playing soccer and wrestling with the kids, it was hard to pull them away. We left them with toothbrushes, clothing, some soccer balls etc. and Canadian flags and pins which they waved around for the time we were there.
After dinner this evening the GMB staff presented us with certificates of appreciation and expressed their love for our group. The entire experience has been so special. We are off now to have a final meeting and debrief of the week and will write again when we arrive in Newark for our overnight stay. Thank you for your best wishes and love!
p.s. we will be reading the fantastic poem that was left to the group in just a few minutes.

It is hard not to have a tear as we read the description of your day. While what you have given to Honduras is huge, what you have gained will be equal in size. I can only imagine what you are feeling tonight as you pack your belongings and recognize the experience is drawing to a close.

Safe journey home, and know how proud we are of you and your work this week. Love to you,

    Gord and Carla

  9. What a way to finish off a great experience...we would love to see any footage taken of the brigade playing with the kids. It's amazing that such a small things as play can bring such joy. It is almost impossible to imagine touching so many lives in such a short time. You are all definitely heros and deserve all the praise that you are getting. Let us know when/where you are arriving, I'm sure I'm not the only proud parent who can't wait to hug their son. Love you all, safe trip.

  14. Congratulations guys. What you have done for the past week has made an immeasurable difference in the lives of the people of the area of Honduras that you served; and the experience has undoubtably been something that will change your lives, and the way you look at things, forever. You all have made Mount Allison proud!

To Laura and Jared, I'm proud to be able to say that I serve Campbell Hall on the same team as you; to the Campbellites, I'm proud to say that I live in the same house as you; and to the entire group, I'm proud to be able to say I go to the same school as you. Way to go!

    All the best,
